Director Hopes To Make Black Dawsons Creek
LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) An up-and-coming film director says theres never been a one-hour prime time drama devoted to African American teens, but she hopes to change that. Niva Dorells television directoral debut, What About Your Friends: Weekend Get-Away, airs tonight (May 31) on UPN and she hopes if people like it enough it will be picked up as a series. Dorell says the movie which stars Keshia Knight Pulliam, Rudy from the Cosby Show will appeal to African- American kids as a sort of Black Dawsons Creek. The director admits she has no clue about the business side of turning the movie into a series, though shes confident it will draw a large audience of black teens.
