The Doodler’s Revenge

The Doodler’s Revenge

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) – Here’s proof it pays to slack off: Artist Rebecca Miller got canned at a textile mill for doodling on the job, but now she’s making more money than ever as a professional caricature artist. “They told me to hit the streets, so that’s what I did,” says the artist, who now cranks out up to 30 big-headed caricatures an hour for up to $25 a pop at street fairs and parties. Miller takes just two minutes on each sketch, and attributes her speed to a photographic memory that helps her remember facial features easily. Although the doodler loves her new-found career, it hasn’t always been easy. She says early on in her sketching days, she had a male customer rip his picture up right in her face because he didn’t think the sketch was flattering. Since then, Miller has learned to “accentuate the positive” in her pictures – for example, making fat folks thinner.
