GIDEON
Cheuvront, (s/o JosephI Cheuvront and Elizabeth Elsworth) born Feb. 14,
1796 at Midway, near Good Hope, West Virginia, d. Nov 14, 1842, married
Feb. 28, 1819, Good Hope, Harrison City, WV, Phoebe E. Post,
(daughter of Martin Post and Sarah Peterson, who was d/oJohn Jacob
Peterson and Eve Elizabeth Harper) b. Sept 1, 1800 Harrison City, WV, d.
Sept. 29, 1872, Jesse's Run (now Lewis County). They had four
sons and two daughters — James Martin; Aaron; George and Edwin, who was
just 8 years old at the time of his father's death and made his home at
his Uncle Caleb's for a number of years; Mary and Elizabeth. We also
find in the 1850 Lewis Co., West Virginia census Elizabeth age 14, and
Phoebe age 30, living with the family of William M. Cookman, and George
age 18, listed as farmer, living with the family of John Cookman.
James Martin and George settled in Sullivan County, Missouri, in 1856,
while Edwin settled near Farmington in the state of Washington. Aaron
took care of his mother as long as she lived, getting the old home farm
of 160 acres. Phoebe Post Cheuvront's mind was bad for a number of
years but they built a little house for her in the yard of the old home
where Aaron lived and at night would lock her in. Aaron married Jane
Lytle, a daughter of James and Mary Lytle, on April 13, 1834, and reared
his family on Jesse's Run. Martin and George reared large families
in Missouri. Most widely known among George's descendants are Luther
C. Cheuvront, banker and ranch owner of Roosevelt and Oklahoma city, Oklahoma,
and J. Howard Cheuvront, now of Pheonix, Arizona. Best known among
the descendants of Martin is Mrs. C.E. Hewitt, of Bethel, Missouri.
There are many descendants all through the west.
