Record of the Second Family of Joseph Cheuvront 
After the death of his first wife [Elizabeth Elsworth, Aug. 18, 1800], he accepted work in Ohio, joining on trial the Baltimore Conference at the session held in Pipe Creek, May 1st, 1801.  He was assigned to the Muskingum and Hockhockin Circuit, with some 30 preaching places.  He met Sarah Bollen at Painesville, Ohio, and the two were married January 26th, 1802. Sarah Bollen Cheuvront was born in Pennsylvania on June 22nd, 1780, and was 23 years younger than her husband.

1: THOMAS STANLEY Cheuvront [(son of Joseph Cheuvront and 2nd wife Sarah Bollen), born March 25, 1803, Good Hope, Harrison Co., VA, d. Oct. 8, 1867, Lebanon Twsp, Meigs Co., OH. Married Oct 28, 1827, Harrison Co., WVA, BeLinda Grant, b. July 12 1811, Lewis Co., WVA, d. Oct 4, 1878, Churchville, VA].[It was said that BeLinda Grant was] a cousin of General (later President) Grant, and settled at Churchville, Lewis Co. [This family is listed on the 1850 Lewis Co., WVA, Federal census]  They had four sons, [1850 census lists 6 sons & 3 daughters] 
Chapman, Rufus, Oscar, and Marshall.  Chapman went to Jackson Co., nearly all of Rufus and Oscar's families went west, settling at Topeka and Dover, Kansas, where Cora and Frona are still living. [assuming 1950]  The boys were: Will, Henry, and Pete, who returned to West Virginia and died at Glenville.  Rufus had [one son in his first marriage, Albert Cheuvront, who went to Chicago and changed his name to Shepherd.  He also had] three sons and one daughter by his second marriage.  The children were:  Homer, Leeman, Jessee, and Priscilla, who married a Mr. Rominee.

Married Dec. 22, 1848, Topeka, Shawnee Co., KS, Mary Ann Robinson.  Child by 1st marriage, Thomas Albert Cheuvront, b. 1849 - d. bef. 1860.  Rufus married 2nd, Jul 11, 1853, Churchville, Lewis Co., VA, Lydia Woofter, b. Mar. 13, 1880, Wood Co., WVA.]  Married  first, Dec. 26, 1826, Harrison Co., WVA, Kiziah Patton; Married second, Dec. 6, 1831, near Morgantown, WVA,  Jane Courtney;   Married third, Mar. 20, 1845, Jackson Co., WVA,  Matilda Gates] Enoch married, consecutively, Kezia Patton, Jane Courtney, and Matilda Gates [b. 1823.]Keziah [b.. c1802, MorganTown, Monongalia Co., WVA, d. 1841], WVA. only lived a short while after marriage.  Jane [b. Mar. 30, 1808, d. Nov. 8, 1841, Good Hope, Harrison Co.,WVA.] had three children and died in the childbirth of her only son William Hunter Cheuvront. 
Carrie [probably Jane's daughter] married a Frankly Sommerville of Ritchie Co. [unsure of state], who fell from a log barn he was building when their son [Newton Sommerville]  was only a baby.  Newton became the Rev. Newton Sommervile of the Nebraska Methodist Conference, where he and Carrie both died. [see further text,The Nebraska Branch of the FamilyHattie [probably another of Jane's daughters] married Charles Miller and reared a family in West Virginia. William Hunter Cheuvront, who was named for a Methodist Minister, served as postmaster and Justice of the Peace at West Union for years.  He had no children.

3:  CASSANDRA Cheuvront commited suicide by drowning in the Gusman Mill dam in 1839, over a love affair with Darius Hinkle. [here is her note, and further referenced information on Cassandra, Darius, and her suicide.]  
[(daughter of Joseph Cheuvront and 2nd wife Sarah Bollen), was born Dec. 28, 1812, in the frame house on the Cheuvront farm, located near the graveyard.   She committed suicide by drowning in the Gusman Mill Dam in 1839, over a love affair with Darius Hinkle.  Suicide note stated she had tried to stay away from Darius Hinkle, but he came for her several times. She thought he had left her to marry someone else, so she killed herself.] 


4:  DANIEL HITT Cheuvront, [(son of Joseph Cheuvront and 2nd wife Sarah Bollen), was born Jan. 20, 1821] died at 11 or 12 years of age after his father's death.  He was named for a Methodist minister who was Presiding Elder at Clarksburg.
