This site exists for a couple of reasons. I am an avid nugget hunter, and love metal detecting in general. It is one of the true passions of my life. The thrill of finding a large gold nugget with a metal detector is truly addictive. It is my wish to promote this wonderful hobby of mine as much as possible. I have found that beginners have a hard time getting started, and in fact most seem to quit in frustration before they ever find a gold nugget. There are a lot of unused detectors sitting in closets and garages. The best way to change this is by getting as much information as possible into the hands of prospective nugget hunters. Although I consider myself knowledgeable, I am always looking for more and better information on nugget hunting, for one can always improve one's skills.
I love the Internet. It is a fantastic way to find information from the comfort of your home. I was frustrated to find, however, that information on gold nugget hunting seems to be widely scattered, and not very complete. Surprisingly, even some of the manufacturers sites seem a little lean on specifics. Hopefully this site will pull all the scattered information together in one place, making it easier for you than it was for me to find this information.
I have tried to include as much information as I can on the various detectors available. I have listed each detectors suggested retail price, but I strongly suggest you contact your local dealer for actual pricing. I have provided links and addresses to the manufacturers on each detector page. They will be most happy to direct you to a dealer in your area. Local dealers have helped me out a lot, and I would hate to see them go away if everyone buys the cheapest thing they can find on the Internet. I have purchased from the Internet, and have nothing against the retailers on the Internet. If you have no local dealership they are a godsend. Just be fair to your local guy, if he exists, and give him a chance at the sale. They'll usually dicker if you are up-front about seeing a good deal elsewhere.
