Todd inspects oboes and reeds in the uppermost chamber. These pieces were in very good condition considering the organ was built around 1930.

Sitting on top of main chest, looking down into pit. Low C is at far left, the last to come out, over 250 pounds and somewhere around 20 feet long.

Back door, clearly labeled as such. Looking straight through the doorway, you can see out over the altar into the pews.

Lefthand balcony, view from above. The pit with the pipes we took out is to the right; to the left is the balcony and the top of the baptismal pool, which fortunately was strong enough to walk on.

Lefthand balcony, view from the floor. Peter stands next to the ladder for height comparison. The pipes are behind the wall in front of him; to his right is the baptismal pool.

Lefthand balcony, more inclusive view from floor. This gives a better idea of the distance involved in wrestling the pipes down. We moved one that way and then switched to the righthand balcony, since it meant we could bring the pipes up from the pit and straight out, rather than bringing them all the way in and then reversing; also, there wasn't a pit on that side, so the folks up top had more floor to stand on.

Wayback ensemble shot with baptismal pool as the centerpiece, both balconies visible to either side. Right above the pool is the main chest we stood on -- stooped, rather, because of the secondary chamber directly above (you can see light from that room coming through the louvres at the very top of this shot). Note that the distance to the righthand balcony is indeed shorter, but what you can't see is that the angle there ended up being more acute, nearly giving us heart attacks.

View from righthand balcony. The bottom crew was hard pressed for room and balance, but we managed. Only the first pipe that came that way was small enough to make it down the stairs; the rest had to be again moved by hand, with two people on the balcony and two down amongst the choir seats.

A better perspective on the righthand balcony, although this shot turned out really fuzzy. From right to left: Peter on the balcony, Todd on the ladder, Dave in the chamber as they lay down a blanket to protect the woodwork.
