My first aim will be to clean down (do you comprehend the full force of the expression?) to clean down Moor House from chamber to cellar... --Jane Eyre, in Jane Eyre |
Thursday, January 6, 2000 Cleaning and Surfing I still haven't gotten very much sleep. On the bright side, however, I have gotten well underway on cleaning my room. I've found my twine and tied up a whole lot of newspapers for recycling, and I've shuffled some books around, and I've even thrown a few things out. Well, mostly scraps of paper with nothing of value written on them. I remain a pack rat in general; throwing anything out goes against my nature. I've also at least made something of a start on the American Studies site, surfing through the sites of various other programs within the college using Netscape and Lynx. I discovered that the sites that had been mentioned to me as being some of the better ones are almost impossible to navigate through using Lynx. Hmmph. Lemme tell ya, that's not going to happen on my pages. On the other hand, said pages didn't have to be that way; simply putting in appropriate ALT tags would have solved many of the problems. (They still would have looked ugly in Lynx, but Lynx users are a hardy breed, not easily deterred by such minor considerations.) And other things could have been done in that regard, without compromising the look and feel on those graphical browsers. But, anyway, I figure I've learned more about what to avoid, at least, so that's something. (And, okay, on a content level, it was nice to see what some of the other departments were doing.) Anyway, I oughta get back to cleaning, or sleeping, or both, so I'm going to leave it at that for today. Stay tuned...
