Misc. II

My sleeping cycle has been working its way around the clock; I've been getting to sleep roughly an hour later every day for the past week or so. Today, that worked out to falling asleep around noon and getting up around 7:30 PM.

I've been going along with this thus far, reasoning that, at this rate, I'll end up within striking distance of "normal" by the time the semester starts.

Ooh... this just in...

Mazel Tov, Karen and Pär!

...not to mention MegaTot 3000, of course.

I'm a bit typed out, I think. I spent rather a while earlier tonight writing a long e-mail to my cousins in Israel trying to justify and explain my request that we steer clear of Israeli politics in e-mail to each other. I don't need the aggravation, really, I don't... which sums up in one sentence what I spent a couple of pages saying in that e-mail.

This was a followup to the message in which I made that request, which was met with "but why not? Surely we can have a reasonable discussion of this without taking it personally," and the forwarding of three articles from the right-wing's point of view, as a starting point, and in the hope that I might see "the truth" of things.

I think I've just pinned down why my last attempt to write about Israel here -- over a year and a half ago -- fizzled out. I just don't have the energy for it. I just want to be left alone with my opinion, and leave it at that.

You know you've been studying dirty words too long when you see an advertisement for an upcoming film named Snatch and your immediate reaction is, "I probably ought to see that for my project on the C-word."

In my defense, the ad in question consisted solely of the title in large print [plus "Coming Soon to a theatre near you" or words to that effect], and it was in the Village Voice, where the meaning I was thinking of would have fit right in. I figured it was an art-house film.

It didn't occur to me until much later that the word has a more common meaning, as a verb.
