Purim

"Anyway, I have to go to sleep, so I can get up early tomorrow morning." Heh. You'd think I would have known better than that.

I tried; give me credit for that much. But considering what time I'd gone to sleep and gotten up the day before, this was way too optimistic. So I ended up staying up all night and catching an early prayer service. Got perhaps a half hour of sleep between then and class, which only made me grumpier, if anything.

Went to class, in a suit, dress shirt, fedora... and a really wild tie, with pom-poms, moving eyes, and plastic farm animals glued all over it. Perfect for the topsy-turvy spirit of Purim. It went over pretty well.

We had something resembling a meeting at the school paper after class, in which open warfare finally broke out. I then went home, and typed up my letter of resignation. Just as I was about to hit "send," I decided to wait until after I get some sleep, as it's just possible that my lack of same is impairing my judgment. Frankly, I doubt it will matter, but better to stay on the safe side, I suppose.

Went back to Far Rockaway, saw the family, traded books with my sister, and rhymes with my uncle. The latest installment of our Grammen contest had him beating me rather handily, although I think my lack of sleep did throw me off a bit. And I did manage to get off one or two good ones.

(Grammen consist of four-line poems with four strong stresses in each line, with a humorous ending. Kind of like limericks, but shorter. The challenge is to come up with them on the spot, matching others in both quantity and quality. We both did only six or seven this time around, but I hesitated a bit too much in a couple of them. And he who hesitates loses. It would have been nice if any of my other relatives had joined in, but not this year. Oh, well.)

I'm now back in my apartment, and I'm finally going to bed. G'night, all.
