On four occasions, the President left very brief messages on Ms. Lewinsky's answering machine...
[Footnote 63] ...the messages, on tapes that Ms. Lewinsky turned over to the OIC, are as follows: "Aw, shucks." "Hey." "Come on. It's me." "Sorry I missed you."

Bread is Overrated

I spent Sunday primarily resting, and trying to login to my ISP. I got as far as connecting, but got no response beyond that.

Somewhere in the middle of the night, I found the access number for 56K modems, which, being the possessor of a mere 28.8, I'm not supposed to use. But I figured that under the circumstances, it was worth a try. So I tried it, and it worked. It kept freezing on me, and I kept having to call back in, but I was able to check my mail, and fire off a message letting them know that the 14.4/28.8 lines weren't working properly.

Otherwise... I ventured outside in the evening to buy the newspaper, and pick up some bread. I had my coat on, and my hat, and my gloves, and it was still really cold. I went up the block, turned the corner, and ran into a stiff wind, coming directly at me.

I managed to go two steps further before scurrying back to my apartment, which, thank goodness, has heat. After all, I reasoned, I didn't really need the paper, and bread was overrated.

I don't actually have anything yet for that poetry reading on Monday. Either I'll scribble something down just before my philosophy class, or I'll bring along somebody else's stuff to read. I'm thinking of Samuel Hoffenstein at this point, but I read my favorite poem of his at the last reading, so maybe I'd better give him a rest. Hmmm.

This entry is late enough, so I'm just going to post it already as-is. With any luck, I'll have more to say next time.
