Work, Dental Work, Fireworks

So... the first issue of the Camper's Paradise newspaper has come and gone. There was a comic moment when I went to camp on Thursday night, with the intention of picking up the master copy of the paper from the fax machine and rushing off to the printer with it, only to find that the office was already locked, and the janitors wouldn't let me in.

The window by the receptionist's desk was not locked, however, so I found a chair, climbed in, got the paper, climbed out, and left. That I probably could have exited through the door failed to occur to me until a few days later, but I'll keep it in mind for next time, I figure.

The night staff at the copy shop appears to be as competent as always; I caught one blatant math error (in my favor) on the spot, and it turned out that we were still drastically undercharged for the job. I'm gonna have to watch more closely in the future...

Still, the paper did make it out in time, so that much is good. I'm gonna have to print more copies starting next week, though. We were a bit short this time around... but we did have enough for the core constituency of the camp, so it's okay.

So I got a root canal last night. I'm very happy that I live in a time in which modern anesthesia and painkillers are available. I'm on ibuprofen, and I've been doing pretty well. A little background pain, but nothing too bad; I just have to remember not to bite down, that's all.

The worst part of the whole procedure was simply that the human mouth isn't really designed to be kept wide open for a solid hour. By the time it ended, my jaw was killing me, and it's still kinda sore when I yawn.

Back to my regular dentist on Friday, although I don't know whether he'll be capping this tooth, or leaving that until next time and working on some of my other cavities instead.

Yes, I was one of the first quarter-million people to order Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire from Amazon.Com even before the title was announced. The news that this volume is almost double the length of the last one doesn't bode well... but I'm hoping that I'm worried over nothing. Only a few days until I get to find out. I've been rereading the first three books in anticipation.

I hate fireworks. Well, I suppose they're okay if you're viewing them from a distance, and can't hear 'em going off, but just see them look pretty. That I can deal with. But I can't understand why anyone would willingly want to be in the proximity of explosive devices, and I certainly don't like hearing them through my window all night. Gives me the creeps.

Thank goodness the Fourth of July only comes once a year.

America's nice, though. I didn't realize how much I liked it until the last time I went to Israel, but I'm glad to be here. And that's tonight's obligatory patriotic content.
