Catch-Up: Camp and Cables

[Note: I am now fourteen entries behind, easily my all-time record. But am I daunted? Do I feel myself starting to despair of ever getting back up to date? Heck yes. But I shall forge ahead nonetheless. Tonight's goal: write at least five entries. Here goes.]

So I went to camp today and did stuff, even if I can't quite remember just what it was that I did at the time that I type this. i probably just wandered around, running into people at random and gleaning ideas for my camp paper. That is more or less my job, after all.

Anyway, on the way home, I made a slight detour, and finally went to my computer supply place, in Inwood. I love this store because it has everything, the prices are good, and the service is perfect. You go in, you ask for what you need, they give it to you within a minute or so, you pay for it, and they write out a receipt. Easy as pie, and that last bit is endearingly low-tech.

What I needed in this case, and had needed for close to a year now, was a couple of cables. Specifically, an IDE hard drive cable, and a "Y" splitter for a hard drive power cable. I needed these for my second hard drive, which has been languishing, unused, inside my computer since shortly after I got it through eBay, some time back.

I made one more detour before returning to my apartment, stopping by Queens College. While the professor I'd hoped would be there wasn't, I did pick up a free copy of Shakespeare's collected works (found amongst a large pile of cast-off books in the English Department), before stopping by the library to look into the etymology of the British slang term "shag," after a reader asked me about it. And I'd planned to say more about all of this, but it's been too long, and I have too many entries left in the queue, so I think I'll leave it at that.

There's a 7-11 between QC and my apartment. I picked up a Super Big Gulp of Dr. Pepper, and finished about half of it by the time I got home. It was hot.

Now, if only I'd gotten a Coke instead, I could have titled this entry "Catch-Up: Camp, Cables, and Cola," or perhaps even "Catch-Up: Camp, Cables, College, Cockney Copulation Cant, and Coca-Cola Classic," but I wasn't thinking that far ahead. Pity.

(I don't think "shag" is Cockney in origin, actually, but as a 'merkin, I'd hardly be expected to know better, right? <g>)
